"Safety Not Guaranteed" comes in second.

ShaneSupercordshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14516452165667442506noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6170443308250983581.post-26172934042475571142013-01-08T08:19:08.634-08:002013-01-08T08:19:08.634-08:00Hey Alex!
You're not alone on that. I know so...Hey Alex!

You're not alone on that. I know some people are torn on that very point. I think Tarantino made his maturest film to date. That being said, he still threw in moments of his ultra-violent homages to films that came before. The only time it really stood out for me, though, was the explosively violent shoot-out near the very end. The violence up until that point wasn't his usual fare... it was meant to illustrate the extreme cruelty African Americans faced at the hands of white suppressors... as opposed to the usual gun battles he throws in.

Remind me: What was the final shot again? I can't recall...

Interesting you say that because I thought the editing was a lot tighter in this film than his previous work. I didn't think any of his scenes felt drawn out, whereas I don't think the same can be said for even Inglourious Basterds (which I also loved).

"Pretentiously excessive" describes Tarantino to a T. Haha.
Laurahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08400880202232098855noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6170443308250983581.post-39236975778676231412013-01-08T06:57:14.663-08:002013-01-08T06:57:14.663-08:00I thought the film got downright silly at points, ...I thought the film got downright silly at points, and not in a way that was effective like in, say, Basterds. The plot, as you said, was far more mature, and so the insane violence was distracting to me. Not to mention the final shots; that smile... really?

And while the story and acting were admittedly excellent, the film suffers most from its editing. There were moments I can't even remember because of how drawn out they were. Not to mention, the "flashy" editing effects felt like an imitation of Sally Menke's previous work.

As a whole, the film's a huge mixed bag to me, easily my least favourite Tarantino. I just found it pretentiously excessive.Alexhttps://twitter.com/AutarchOfFlamenoreply@blogger.com
